We’re all friends here, right? Now that spring is here, I’ve been thinking a lot about … moccasins.
Remember how I do rely on friends to turn me away from taking the wrong (fashion) path? Well, today I really want to discuss the fashionableness of moccasins.
A few years ago, a West Coast friend of mine talked about her moccasins as if they were one of her most precious possessions. She told me they’d been from continent-to-continent, and on many an adventure. We all have shoes that go with us everywhere, whether they’re a cute stiletto that shows off our gams and makes us walk tall, or if they’re the comfiest flats that have witnessed all of our exploits and adventures.
What I’ve realized about myself is that I’m getting sick of boring flats or the discomfort brought by my heels when it comes to my day-to-day life. When I need to run errands, or walk a couple miles to meet a friend, I’d like to be comfortable yet reflect my personal style. Wearing mocs doesn’t make you supremely lazy – think about how many of your flats are easy to slip on and go? But unlike my ballerina flats, mocs offer some excitement and more support for my feet.
Personally, I’m all for shoes without laces that offer good foot support, and that go with jeans, leggings or skirts (if paired correctly). I really like owning canary yellow moccasins to bring some color into my mostly neutral wardrobe. I also love some owning some nice navy ones to wear make summery dresses less formal. I’m considering other more neutral colors, although I’m not a huge fan of brown. I’ve even worn them to a less formal job and gotten compliments (although I tried very hard not to wear them too often).
While I am also including the traditional brown mocs typically associated with Native Americans, I am really referring to a wide spectrum of colors. I’ve really gotten into trying more unique colors, like chartreuse, to express myself and bring some cheer to my wardrobe.
I’m not endorsed by anyone and this isn’t an advertisement for mocs, this is just something that’s been on my mind (this week is getting a superficial start!) I think mostly, I’m very excited to put my boots away and break out some more exciting options. And if you’re interested, these pretty yellow mocs sold like hotcakes last year… I’m planning on getting more if they’re still around…
What do you think – are moccasins in or out? If not mocs, what are your springtime shoe staples?
Please comment, share your thoughts and let me know what you think. Please help me keep this a positive forum, though. I am so excited for some debate, but let’s respect each other please. I reserve the right to monitor and delete inappropriate posts. Thanks in advance!
